'Superman Returns: Directors Cut' Campaign

SupermanReturnsTheBryanSingerCut.com have launched a campaign for Warner Brothers to release Bryan Singer's original cut of the film on DVD & Blu-Ray.

Singer stated back when the film was released that the original cut was 2 hours and 45 minutes before the film was trimmed for its theatrical release. A number of significant scenes ended up on the cutting room floor such as the Return to Krypton sequence, scenes with Ben Hubbard and Martha Kent, Kal Penn's character's dialogue was cut, an opening sequence with comic book opening similar to Superman: The Movie's opening, Clark adjusting back to life on earth, young Clark growing up, and lots of dialogue and extended scenes that supposedly added to the film and gave it better pacing and beats.

The trailer below highlights some of these scenes that got cut:

Deleted Return To Krypton Scene

Superman Returns generated $13 million in rentals during its first week of release on home video . The DVD release also generated high sales worldwide, the film was also released in both high definition formats, HD DVD and Blu-Ray and became the best-selling title on both formats in 2006 and was among the best sellers of both formats of 2007.

Flicks News totally support this campaign and would love to see a Directors/ Extended cut of the film with all the scenes restored and we urge you to join the campaign and sign your name.

This is a joke, right?! Superman Returns was garbage! Making it longer couldn't possible help. Poorly conceived story, bad casting and bad acting, not to mention the reeves-routh mimic would have been better suited for a biography. Bad idea to revisit this; it's best to forget it ever happened at all. Look to another actor for any future Superman projects!

I was not really a fan of Superman Returns, but I would be interested in seeing this longer cut. I'd love to see the return to Krypton scene reinstated. Also Tom Welling is a terrible Superman, have you guys ever watched Smallville? The guy can't act. Smallville will be canceled this year, Who the F**k watches it? Oh Yeah, no one!

ROUTH FOR SUPERMAN!!

WELLING FOR THE FOG 2!!

@Chad...according to a poll on superherohype.com where over 12,000 responded, 60% say smallville should have a 10th season...despite being moved to fridays, season9 has done extremely well...i agree that a new direction for superman is necessary and smallville has provided that (to the anguish of many purists)...tom welling is the superman of the future....

for the record...only 30% polled said "no" to a 10th season of smallville...10% choosing to "wait and see"

Singer & Routh nearly ruined Superman forever!!! Thank God for Tom Welling and Smallville!!!

Smallville was moved to Friday's because the CW have no interest in the show anymore and want to drop it...fast, the show is expensive to produce and even though it has a loyal fanbase and steady figures...it's end is still nigh.
You Smallville fans should STOP bashing people who want to see a longer cut of Superman Returns and start preparing your own campaign to save Smallville. Also if ... and this is a big IF Smallville comes back next season, it will have massive budget cuts. So I'll say it again Smallville fans stop bashing a Superman film that was always intended to be released on DVD at some point and focus on your dying show!

@TheVoiceOfReason...you couldn't be more incorrect (in name, as well)...the show was moved a)to make room for vampire diaries (cw's answer to twilight) and b)to pair it with a similarly styled show (supernatural) and c)to improve/fill its friday slot with an established show in it's waning seasons...mark my words, smallville will be back for a 10th season! as i read through these comments, nowhere are samllville fans bashing superman returns...i read superman fans bashing a bad movie and mixed opinions on wether the next superman should be routh or welling...i do see you and leee777 (wink) bashing smallville and welling, though...keep on with your campaign, though...maybe you'll convince enough people...good luck with that, because superman returns is widely considered a failure and not because of smallville/welling fans...it's because it was a big budget stinker....

Smallville is still going, how old is he now 30 and still in school? Puuuuhllleaassee!!!!! Smallville is a joke. Also Superman Returns director cut, I'd rather they reboot the Superman movie franchise and keep Routh but get JJ Abrams to direct it FTW!

@MisterUnderhill I use to enjoy Smallville so I am not bashing it I just don't understand why its was brought up in a Superman Returns directors cut dvd comments. Smallville will be axed is just a fact, none of the cast or main crew will take pay cuts if they are offered a season next year to make on the cheap. The CW has no confidence in the show anymore and see it as a burden they can't get rid of. This isn't specualtion either this is well known in TV circles and a number of sites like Aint It Cool News have reported the same thing. The show does not fit in with the networks deomgraphic that is why they got rid of WWE Smackdown yet it had its biggest ratings.

@TheVoiceOfReason...once again, you are incorrect, sir...in serveral press releases from the cw, executives have stated just the opposite...they still have confidence in the show, and are more than pleased with how it's doing in the ratings, but also understand that the show is nearing its end (bet money on 10 seasons)...as for what others write, i see nothing wrong...superman comparisons are gonna happen...bottom line is a lot of people feel singer-routh brought superman to his knees faster than kryptonite ever did...personally, i'm not a fan...i'll save my money for season 9 (it's final season: 10) of smallville...no need to campaign...;D

Singer is one of the best directors of the modern era. Superman Returns was a good solid film. I would love to see a directors cut of the film. If this does get released I would def buy it.

@MisterUnderhill You are deluded, but I'm not here to argue with you. I hope for your sake and other Smallville fans it does get a season 10. No doubt no one will care if it does get a 10th season and the ratings will continue to decline and it will just start to look cheaper and cheaper due to massive budget cuts. A good show knows when to bow out, why do you think the Smallvill creators quit??? Smallville should have ended after Season 3.

MisterUnderhill said...

@TheVoiceOfReason...ditto that for Singer, Routh and Superman Returns supporters...lol....
