'The Dark Knight Rises' Official Synopsis
Every hero has a journey. Every journey has an end. Christopher Nolan returns to complete the epic Gotham trilogy that launched with Batman Begins and reached the stratosphere with the billion-dollar blockbuster The Dark Knight.
Batman is now hunted by the law led by his friend Commisioner Gordon for taking the blame of Harvey Dent's murders and protecting his reputation. Beneath the floorboards of a sprawling mansion set in a magical, overgrown garden in the suburbs of Tokyo, tiny 14-year-old Arrietty lives with her equally tiny parents. The house is occupied by two old ladies, who are unaware of the existence of their miniature tenants.
Arrietty and her family live by “borrowing”. Everything they have, they borrow or make from the things they have borrowed. A sugar cube here, a scrap of material there. But only a little each time, so the ladies do not notice.
Arrietty’s parents have always warned her: “Never let humans see you.” Once seen, little people always have to move on. But the adventurous Arrietty doesn’t listen, and soon she gets discovered by Sho, a 12-year-old human boy who lives in the mansion.
The two begin to confide in each other and, before long, a friendship begins to blossom...

'The Flowers of War' Trailer
Based on the novel “The 13 Women of Nanjing” by Chinese author Yan Geling, “The Flowers of War” tells the story of 13 prostitutes, women who volunteered to replace university students who were abducted as “escorts” for the invading Japanese soldiers. Christian Bale stars as the Catholic priest who shelters the women in his church while the troops pillage in an event that would come to be known as the 1937 “Rape of Nanking.”
The film is China’s official selection into the Academy Awards Best Foreign Picture category. It opens 16 December 2011 in China, no release date yet for us in the west.
The Live Action 'Akria' Remake Lives
With a greenlight in place, studio can begin shopping for the two male leads; sources tell Variety that "Tron: Legacy" star Garrett Hedlund is considered a front-runner. Twitch also reports that Gary Oldman has been offered the role of Colonel while Helena Bonham-Carter has been offered Lady Miyako.
'Akira,' long in development at the studio, has hit several speedbumps over the last several months, including Albert Hughes falling out as director. Collet-Serra was brought on quickly, but working out the budget took about two months, with studio and creative execs meeting last week before the decision was sealed over the weekend.
Appian Way's Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran are producing with Mad Chance's Andrew Lazar. It's another big win for Appian Way, which just secrured "Cloverfield" director Matt Reeves to helm its "Twilight Zone" pic at Warners.

How did the film come about?
I met Olympia in Paris through friends of mine. She was just starting to make the bags for her friends. She had a bunch of the scraps in her bag, all of the cut-out pieces of felt. I just loved it. I loved all the artwork she picked, the texture of it, the stitching of the felt. We joked about making a film and just went for it. It was this thing with no schedule, no pressure and no real reason to be—other than just that we thought it would be fun.
Did you write the story together?
Yeah we did. We would look at all the artwork over lunch whenever we would be in the same city, noting any ideas that would just make us smile. It was done like that, with no real plans.
What’s your creative process?
You just start with what the feeling is. For this one the feeling definitely started with the handmade aesthetic and charm of Olympia’s work. Instantly I had the idea of doing it in a bookstore after-hours, imagining the lights coming down and these guys off their books. Me and Olympia both wanted to make a love story, and it was fun to do it with these characters. It evolved naturally and it all just started with the feeling. From there you entertain yourself with ideas that excite you.
Do you go with your gut instinct?
If it cracks me up. We were talking about the skeleton coming off his book and the girl in the Dracula book waving at him. Olympia is someone who is just absurd, she’s used to just saying anything. She just started making the blowjob gesture as a joke to make us laugh but I was like, “We’ve got to do that.” It’s about taking things that could just be a joke while brainstorming and actually going for it and using it.
What inspires you?
People inspire me. Humberto Leon and Carol Lim [from Opening Ceremony] and the confidence and creativity in how they run their business. Pixar’s really inspiring, they make films in the best possible way. They’re always focused on story. I could list a million people that inspire me all the time. David Bowie’s music, Charlie Kauffman, David Russell. A lot of people that I work with too, just conversations I have with them about what we want to do.

Patty Jenkins previously directed Monster starring Charlize Theron, who won an Academy Award for her performance in the film. Jenkins, who received an Emmy nomination for directing the pilot of AMC's acclaimed series "The Killing," has also directed episodes of "Entourage" and "Arrested Development." Most recently, she directed "Pearl," one of the five short films that comprise Lifetime's original movie "Five."

Michael Fassbender Joins Steve McQueen's '12 Years a Slave'
Based on the 1853 autobiography of Solomon Northrup, 12 Years a Slave tells of Northrup's tragic kidnapping in Washington DC in 1841 where, despite being born a free man, he was forced into slavery at a Louisiana cotton plantation until his rescue 12 years later.
McQueen co-wrote the adaptation with John Ridley (Red Tails) and will produce through Brad Pitt's company, Plan B. Ejiofor, best known for roles in Children of Men and Redbelt, will portray Northrup while Fassbender's role remains currently undisclosed.

Steve Jobs RIP

Steve Jobs has died at 56 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Jobs had battled cancer in 2004 and underwent a liver transplant in 2009 after taking a leave of absence for unspecified health problems. He took another leave of absence in January -- his third since his health problems began -- and officially resigned in August.
Jobs started Apple with a high school friend in a Silicon Valley garage in 1976, was forced out a decade later and returned in 1997 to rescue the company. During his second stint, it grew into the most valuable technology company in the world.
Cultivating Apple's countercultural sensibility and a minimalist design ethic, Jobs rolled out one sensational product after another, even in the face of the late-2000s recession and his own failing health.
He also founded NeXT Computer in 1985 and a year later bought Graphics Group from the Star Wars director, George Lucas. The company, which Jobs renamed Pixar, produced extremely expensive computer animation hardware which was used by a number of film makers, including Disney.
Jobs switched the emphasis away from computer manufacturing and began producing computer animated feature films. The breakthrough came in 1995 with the film Toy Story, which went on to gross more than $350 million worldwide, and was followed by other successes including A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc.

Doctor Who: 'Death Is The Only Answer' Mini Episode
This special was broadcast on BBC Three as part of the Doctor Who Confidential episode 'When Time Froze.' Doctor Who Confidential and BBC Learning teamed up in a competition for UK students aged 9-11 to write a script for a Doctor Who short. The winning script was chosen by Doctor Who producers Steven Moffat, Piers Wenger and Beth Willis and Controller of BBC Learning Saul Nassé.
The writers of the winning script were Adam, Daniel, Katie, and Ben, Year Six students at Oakley C.E. Junior School in Basingstoke. For their on-screen credit, the only credit in the episode, the authors were collectively known as the Children of Oakley Junior School.

'Arrested Development' To Return For A 10 Episode Run Before Planned Film
Creator Mitch Hurwitz announced the news while attending an Arrested Development cast reunion at the New Yorker Festival.
The mini-season will reportedly focus on where the show's characters are now, in order to reacquaint the audience with the series which has been off the air since 2006, before the impending movie.
