The Dark Knight Set To Make Box Office History

The Dark Knight is set to shatter all opening weekends this weekend . Last week industry experts had suggested the film could make as much as $130 million this upcoming weekend, now industry insiders are suggesting the figure maybe more than $150 million. Warner Brothers are trying to play down the number suggesting the film will only make $90 million but this is seen by many insiders just to just play it safe.

To give you a break down of numbers check this out:

4,366 screens across North America will be screening The Dark Knight. Hollywood insiders say that's an industry record!

Fandango (which sells tickets to more than 15,000 theater screens) reports that The Dark Knight accounts for 90% of all ticket sales for the upcoming weekend.

MovieTickets.com says The Dark Knight has sold out 700 performances in North America and is outselling 3 of MovieTickets.com’s Top 10 Performing Films of All-Time. To date, the newest Batman has more than 3-times as many advance tickets as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, more than 2-times as many as Spider-Man 3 and almost 2-times as many as Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers at the same point in the sales cycle.

This film is going to be a monster and it is finally good to see a film deserving of both brilliant reviews and huge box office sales. Lets hope that the Titanic box office crown is smashed and The Dark Knight sits on top. It's almost strange to think that Warners where hell bent on upsetting the apple cart with Christopher Nolan, Christain Bale et al not so long ago with the inclusion of a young batman in the proposed Justice Leaugue film.
