Mark Strong To Play Sherlock Holmes Villain

Guy Ritchie looks to have lined up Mark Strong (Sunshine, Syriana) to play the villain in his reinvention of Sherlock Holmes.

Speaking at the BFI's Movie-Con weekend, Ritchie revealed that he will pit Strong, who appears in the director's upcoming gangster film RocknRolla, against Robert Downey Jr. in Sherlock Holmes.

Ritchie did not name the villain, but Holmes's best-known nemesis is Professor James Moriarty. The movie will take inspiration from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic novels and Lionel Wigram's upcoming comic book series.
