Captain America Empire Cover Plus Pics & Nick Fury Confirmed for 'Thor' and 'Captain America'

The new Empire cover features Chris Evans in his stars-and-stripes as 'Captain America: The First Avenger'. Directed by Joe Johnston, the action adventure stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Hugo Weaving, Sebastian Stan, Toby Jones, Samuel L. Jackson, Dominic Cooper, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci and Neal McDonough.

Below are five new photos from Captain America: The First Avenger, also your first look at first shot of Cap's sidekick, "Bucky" Barnes as portrayed by Sebastian Stan. Also included in the magazine are new images of HYDRA troops and Hugo Weaving's Red Skull

Chris Evans also told Les Toiles Heroiques that he is not contracted for nine Marvel films as was previously rumored.

"To be honest," he says in a quote translated back from French, "it was quite intimidating to commit to nine films in a row. Thankfully, we reduced the number to six... If all goes as planned, I will be playing Captain America until I'm 40."

Describing the movie version of Bucky, the character as the "Band of Brothers" version, director Joe Johnston says that Stan's performance will offer a "dark side" to Barnes.

"We took some liberties with the relationship between the two guys,” Johnston is quoted as saying. “In our story, Bucky is already in the service, he’s already joined up and is being sent overseas while Steve is still struggling to get in the army. That’s different than what you may have read in the comics. It adds a nuance to the relationship that pays off later. They’re closer in age, too — they’re virtually the same age.”

Also Samuel L. Jackson appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and confirmed that Nick Fury will be making cameo appearances in 'Thor' and 'Captain America: The First Avenger'.

Henry Cavill Is Superman!!

 

Warner Bros. Pictures have announced that British actor Henry Cavill will portray Clark Kent/Superman in Zack Snyder's 'Superman' movie.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Henry Cavill has won the coveted role of Superman, the iconic superhero.

The film will be directed by Zack Snyder, who stated, “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”

Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

Cavill recently wrapped production on “The Cold Light of Day” and stars in the upcoming “Immortals,” opening this fall.

Targeted for release in December 2012, the new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

'The Conspirator' Trailer

Here's the trailer for Robert Redford's 'The Conspirator,' starring James McAvoy, Robin Wright, Justin Long, Tom Wilkinson, Evan Rachel Wood, Kevin Kline, Alexis Bledel, Toby Kebbell, Danny Huston, Johnny Simmons, and Stephen Root.

The Conspirator is a period drama based on true events following the assassination of President Lincoln. Wright Penn will play Mary Surratt, the only woman among a group charged with conspiring to kill the president. McAvoy will play Frederick Aiken, an idealistic young war hero who reluctantly defends Surratt and in the process comes to believe she is innocent.

It opens April 15th.

'Prometheus' Still Linked To 'Alien'

The Sky Movies website have some very interesting info regarding Ridley Scott's 'Prometeheus.' The film apparently will after all, feature HR Giger's classic aliens in it, and that they are integral to the plot. The links don't end there apparently the android to be played my Michael Fassbender will be linked to the Bishop androids and that 'space jockey' cock pits will feature.

"They’ve built the ‘space jockey’ cockpit at Pinewood as seen in the original Alien film, so it definitely takes place in the same world as Alien", they told us.

"Despite that press release that seemed to indicate there were no aliens in the movie, the familiar HR Giger-style aliens do appear. Big ones apparently."
And as for Scott's comments noting that "keen fans will recognise strands of Alien's DNA"?
It turns out there was the slightest hint of misdirection - apparently the actual DNA of the xenomorphs is integral to the plot - and will see the cast jet off to the alien homeworld itself.
"Part of the film will be shot in Morocco. I’ve heard that some sort of archaeological dig where they discover alien DNA takes place there and that DNA gives them the coordinates for an alien world. I’ve also heard Morocco is being used for alien planet landscapes so I’m not sure if it’s an archaeological dig on another planet," they revealed.
It gets weirder too, with Damon Lindelof's script set to crank up the sci-fi angle to maximum effect.

"The main spaceship in the film will be piloted by an enormous head which I assume will be CGI. Yep, sounds weird but I assume some of the technology will be sort of biomechanical."

Saoirse Ronan Joins 'The Hobbit'

 

UPDATED May 6th 2011: Saoirse Ronan has turned down the part "It's probably not going to work out with 'The Hobbit' unfortunately. Because I would have been working for about a year on it and there were other projects that I was very interested in, but Pete and [his producer wife] Fran have been very good about it and very understanding."

Renowned Irish casting director Ros Hubbard revealed to IFTN in an interview, that Soairse Ronan will feature in the cast for 'The Hobbit.' When asked about the strong Irish presence in The Hobbit cast, this is what Hubbard replied:

IFTN: I wondered if there was any coincidence between the large Irish presence (Aidan Turner, James Nesbitt and Saoirse Ronan) in the film and the fact that it was you guys casting . . .

Ros Hubbard: Yes, there was quite a lot of influence there! We had been wanting to to put Aidan Turner into film for a long time because he had done an awful lot of TV and we told him when we finally met him “We are going to concentrate in getting you into the movies.” I didn’t think it would be as big as this. But how great for him.

And Jimmy is thrilled to bits, his whole family have gone out, it is just wonderful. And working with Peter Jackson is like working with a family. So they’ll have a great time. Saoirse’s family will go too, everyone is very close and very loving on those sorts of jobs. It’s not like typical studio movies at all.

Though not confirmed, Ronan is expected to play the woodland elf Itaril. Here is what the official casting notice for the part was described as:

ITARIL – female, A woodland Elf, this character is one the Silvan Elves. The Silvan Elves are seen as more earthy and practical. Shorter than other elves, she is still quick and lithe and physically adept, being able to fight with both sword and bow. Showing promise as a fighter at a young age, ITARIL was chosen to train to become part of the Woodland King’s Guard. This is the only life she has ever expected to live, until she meets and secretly falls in love with a young ELF LORD.

It had been long promised, but Ricky Gervais finally reprised his David Brent character last night in the US version of The Office to make a small cameo bumping in to none other than Dunder Mifflin manager Michael Scott.

Gervais done the cameo as a thank you to Steve Carell, who is leaving the US version of 'The Office' this season. This is what Ricky had to say about the small scene on his blog:

"Blink and you'll miss it, but just a little thanks to Steve Carell. A pleasure to work with the great man."

Shaun the Sheep Movie In The Works

Aardman Animations confirmed that it is developing a feature film to be released in 2013/2014 revolving around Shaun the Sheep. The character first appeared with Wallace and Gromit in 1995's 'A Close Shave' and since 2007 featured in his own hugely popular spin off series made for children's BBC.

The film is expected to be largely silent and inspired by Buster Keaton. Aardman creative director Richard Goleszowski said "My goal is to make a modern day silent movie starring Shaun. When we started writing the television series we stuck a picture of Buster Keaton on the studio door.

"I grew up watching slapstick films and some of the jokes have become embedded in my psyche."

And added that the senior team at Aardman had been thinking about running screenings of silent films to help the newer animators develop their skills.

He said one of the reasons he had originally developed Shaun the Sheep as a non-speaking character was because animation with dialogue is time consuming and expensive.

He said: "I thought making him silent would make it cheaper and easier but it makes life more difficult.

"Telling a story through pictures means you can't cut corners. It's very cinematic and involved."

'The Guard' Clips & Interview With Brendan Gleeson & Don Cheadle

Irish film 'The Guard' has just won a major distribution deal in the US following its world-premiere at the Sundance Film Festival after being picked up by Sony Pictures Classics in a deal worth more than €1 million.

It tells the story of Sergeant Gerry Boyle is a small-town Garda with a confrontational personality, a subversive sense of humour, a dying mother, a fondness for prostitutes, and absolutely no interest whatsoever in the international cocaine-smuggling ring that has brought straight-laced FBI agent Wendell Everett to his door.

Michael Fassbender Joins Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus'

Ireland's own Michael Fassbender has just been confirmed as the male lead and will star opposite Noomi Rapace in Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus,' the sci-fi project that was once an Alien prequel incarnation, but is now an original movie that Scott has described as having traces of 'Alien' DNA.

The Kerry man is to play an android, and has been in talks for the role since the project was green lit. Further casting announcements are expected to be announced soon with a large significant role to be played by an actress expected to be either Charlize Theron or Angelina Jolie still to be announced, as well as further male cast additions.

Five New 'Sucker Punch' Character Posters

Matthew Vaughn Talks 'X-Men: First Class'

Matthew Vaughn chatted to EW about 'X-Men: First Class:'

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How would you describe First Class to the uninitiated?

MATTHEW VAUGHN: The best way of describing it is X-Men meets Bond, with a little bit of Thirteen Days thrown in for good measure. It’s set in the ’60s, and I basically molded a young Magneto on a young Sean Connery. He’s the ultimate spy — imagine Bond, but with superpowers.

If Magneto is Bond, then what about Charles Xavier?

You’re seeing Xavier become a professor. For me, Magneto is the good guy in the film, but he’s a sort of a good bad guy. He literally kicks off the movie, and Xavier goes along on the ride trying to figure out what the hell is going on, and trying to persuade Erik that you don’t have to kill everyone.

I know you’re under tight restrictions about what you can reveal regarding the plot, but, well, what else can you say?

In the beginning of the film, no one knows that mutants exist, and all the mutants don’t know that each other exist. They’re all in hiding. Kevin Bacon plays a very megalomaniac mutant [Sebastian Shaw] who decides that he can take over the world and that mutants are the future. Erik and Charles then meet each other and hook up with the CIA to try and prevent World War III. You find out everything about what went on between Erik and Charles.

And there are flashbacks with Erik and Charles as young children?

They’re not flashbacks — we start there. It starts in 1942, and then works its way up to 1962.

Did you have any concerns about how, no matter what you do, you may anger some of the die-hard fans?

Yeah, but I could tell those fans that they’re wrong. One thing about the X-Men world is that, if you know your X-Men universe, every writer reinvented the storyline. I did my research, and none of the histories of the characters make any sense. Each writer just totally changed the history to make their plot work. So I can quite safely say that X-Men has a history of reinventing its history for the sake of the plot.

Is the movie related at all to the First Class comics?

Not really. There are a lot of nods to the X-Men world and the X-Men movies, but it’s definitely its own beast.

Is Sam Raimi Returning To 'The Evil Dead'?

Sam Raimi is reportedly considering producing an 'Evil Dead' reboot according to Rob Tapert, the pair are looking to return to the Evil Dead franchise.

"It's possible; we're looking at a script this month," Tapert said about an Evil Dead reboot.

Aadding: "What's interesting about Evil Dead is very few people saw it in the format we made it for, which is for the theatre... I think Sam wants to embrace the ultimate experience in gruelling terror and see it remade for a proper theatrical experience."

We at flicks news still want the 'Evil Dead 4' but if Raimi himself helms the remake with James Franco as Ash we would happy.
