New 'Scarface' Film In Development

Universal Pictures is developing a new version of 'Scarface,' the film is is not intended to be a remake or a sequel. It will however take elements from the 1932 original and the 1983 version for the updated incarnation.

Both movies told the story of an immigrant who comes to America muscles into the crime scene and becomes a major crime kingpin through ruthlessness and violence, before toppling from power because of his weaknesses.

Studio meetings with writer to script the movie are already taking place. The film will be film will be produced by Marc Shmuger and his Global Produce banner along with Martin Bregman, who produced the Brian DePalma version.
