Genndy Tartakovsky Takes The Reins 'Popeye'

It looks like Popeye may be saved from a getting a crappy 3D CG production (but lets not hold our breathes seeing produced by Avi and Ari Arad, with a screenplay by David Ronn and Jay Scherick (Zookeeper, The Smurfs) as flicks news favorite Genndy Tartakovsky has been bought on board to direct the feature after making 'Hotel Transylvania.'

Popeye, the spinach-loving seaman who first appeared in the "Thimble Theater" comicstrip in 1929, spawned numerous spin-offs, including one of the longest-running series of animated shorts and Robert Altman's 1980 film starring Robin Williams.

Tartakovsky is also currently attached to direct a feature film 'Samurai Jack' but sadly we may have a little longer before we get to see Samurai Jack get back to the past.

'Hotel Transylvania' opens September 28 for the US, 12 October for Ireland and the UK.
