New Flash Gordon Movie Gets It's Writers

Sony's Columbia Pictures has signed Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless to write the script for Flash Gordon, the new take on the outer space tale.

The new version is using the comic book origin of Flash, with the character now a polo player before he is kidnapped and taken to the planet of Mongo, where he and companions Dale Arden and Hans Zarkov embark on a series of adventures fighting a ruler named Ming the Merciless.

Breck Eisner (Sahara) is attached to direct and Neal Moritz to produce, as they were when the project was set up at Universal.

Sazama and Sharpless are penning the vampire tale Dracula Year Zero for Universal and Zack Snyder's Cobalt 60.
