'Machete Maidens Unleashed' Trailer

From the early '70s well into the '90s the Philippines was a back-lot for a bevy of B-movie mavericks and cinema visionaries alike. The country was utilized for its inexpensive labour, exotic locations and distinct lack of rules. A large body of genre work emerged that somehow managed to capture the raw, chaotic energy of contemporary Filipino culture. These productions (a cavalcade of monster movies, jungle prison movies, blaxploitation and kung fu hybrids) were miraculously made at a time when the country's political situation was repressive at best.

MACHETE MAIDENS UNLEASHED! is the ultimate insiders' account of genre filmmaking in the Philippines. A role call of local and international survivors from this period have been interviewed, all adding their distinct and honest account of this Devil-may-care school of filmmaking. Sitting alongside the talking heads are a dazzling array of outrageous film clips from key Filipino titles.

Now That's How You Sell A Film

Production Commences On Scorsese's 'Hugo Cabret'

Martin Scorsese has begun production on 'Hugo Cabret' his first film to be shot in 3D. It tells the tale of an orphan boy living a secret life in the walls of a Paris train station. When Hugo encounters a broken machine, an eccentric girl, and the cold, reserved man who runs the toy shop, he is caught up in a magical, mysterious adventure that could put all of his secrets in jeopardy.

It stars Ben Kingsley (Shutter Island), Sacha Baron Cohen (Bruno), Asa Butterfield (The Boy in the Striped Pajamas), Chloë Moretz (Kick-Ass), Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes), Ray Winstone (London Boulevard), Christopher Lee ("The Lord of the Rings"), Helen McCrory ("The Special Relationship"), Frances de la Tour (Alice in Wonderland), and Richard Griffiths (The History Boys).

It has a December 2011 release date for the US.

Edgar Wright Updates 'Ant-Man' Status

Edgar Wright has talked a bit more about the status of the 'Ant-Man' film he plans to helm for Marvel:
I haven't actually started the second draft yet--I'm not going to be able to until this film [Scott Pilgrim] is out--but what we wrote for the first draft, and what Marvel really liked, is that it's funny, but it's a genre film. It's about the level of comedy that Iron Man has. The idea is to make a high-concept genre film where it's within another genre. His suit and its power is the big gadget and it takes place in the real world. I just wanted to do something that was slightly different than the superhero origin film. I felt that between that and the various mad scientist, crazy doctor films that we've all seen, this would be a way into an origin that was slightly different. I'm not really a multi-tasker--I haven't done anything since Marvel liked our first draft.

The Chosen One has become the hunted one as the Death Eaters search for Harry with orders to bring him to Voldemort... alive.

Little does Harry know that his future has already been decided by his past when, on that fateful day, he became "the Boy Who Lived." Tom Hardy Talks 'Mad Max: Fury Road'

Taking the diver seat of the Interceptor from Mel Gibson, Tom Hardy talked a little about taking the role of 'Mad' Max Rockatansky in George Millers 'Mad Max: Fury Road:'
Q: Can you talk about how you got involved? Is that shooting? Is it ready to go?

Tom Hardy: I'm obviously limited as to what I can say. These things are always binded to secrecy and I think that's a good thing for the film anyway. I'm not allowed to give away anything. Without incriminating myself in any way, it's a very big film. To step into the shoes of Mel Gibson... George [Miller] and Mel created the franchise "Mad Max," which started off as an independent which then blew up. It took off. It became the "Mad Max" as you know it with t-shirts and DVDs. No computer game yet, but you know, it was early days. This was back before internet. Before all that sort of stuff. I was born the year it came out, so now it's very funny that I've now been asked to play Mad Max. I spent four hours. It was kind of an anomaly. There were many, many actors that would probably be right for Mad Max and there's many out there who could probably do an exceptional job to portray him. It's especially a challenge to step in the shoes of such an iconic character. I'm aware that I'm going to take a certain number of casualties when I go in and play him. If I concentrate on that, it's obviously not going to be the best thing for the project. We have to take it differently, as George is taking it. It's a relaunch and revisit to the world. An entire restructuring. That's not to say that it's not picking up or leaving off from the Mad Max you know already, but it's a nice re-take on the entire world using the same character, depositing him in the same world, but bringing him up to date by 30 years. Mel would be perfect for it but, for some reason, he's not doing it and I am. You can expect the same amount of grit and rawness and authenticity and performance, I hope to deliver. But that's really the crux of me and George to deliver and all the other actors as the other characters. But also we have the new world afforded to filmmakers today with all the opportunities. I think the boys that did "Lord of the Rings" are involved. That kind of stuff as well. CGI is not going to be -- I think it's going to be much more about how you deal with action. These things are going to be really there. Big rigs, big explosions, big car crashes. Big violence, you know. It's going to actually happen as opposed to doing a 2D turned to 3D screen. It's going to be an adventure, let's put it that way. We're shooting for a year.

Q: Can you at least say when you're going to be in front of the cameras?

Hardy: I can't say when I'm going to be in front of the cameras. I'm actually headed tonight to Australia to start some stunt-training. I'm training now. Even though I'm smoking. I'm meant to drop 30 pounds so smoking and one meal a day is my training at the moment. I'm going to start fighting soon. The harder stuff, as we get close to the line. I'll probably get three or four months of fight training out there. Seven days a week. All that kind of horrible s**t.

Q: So you're going to train for three months and then shoot for a year?

Hardy: Shooting is probably nine months. Training is allocated as two months. We don't know if that's going to push a little bit or come up a little bit. It's a gray area. There's very anomalies and shifting papers. All kinds of people's shifting schedules, from what I'm aware, need to be tied down. The movie is absolutely healthy. It is going, it's just a question of, not if, when precisely.

Q: You mention shooting in Australia? Have they decided to displace the geographic non-specificity of the original?

Hardy: It's absolutely the same spot. The same spot.

Q: So you're going to have an Australian accent?

Hardy: This is a new area to me. It's up to people like George. I don't know. I don't know. Whatever suits the revisit. It would be bold for me to give you an honest answer now. I don't know and a lot has to be left to the process. It depends on what feeds the project for the best of the project, always.

Q: You're dropping 30 pounds?

Hardy: I've already dropped it.

Q: Are you aiming for a muscular cut, being very thin? What the look you've envisioned?

Hardy: Imagine a hungry wolf. Or like when you put a cat in the bath. You grab a cat by the throat and stuff it under the f**king water. You know what it looks like? That's what I'm going to look like. But like a puma. Very hungry at very dangerous. It's imperative. This is the kind of guy who's not well. So I have to create that reality.

Nicolas Winding Refn Wants 'Wonder Woman'

Danish filmmaker, Nicolas Winding Refn has revealed his intetnion to take the helm of the troubled 'Wonder Woman' film. Best known for the 'Pusher' trilogy, 'Valhalla Rising,' & 'Bronson,' Nicolas Winding Refn has outlined what problems you would have to address in order to make a creditable film:
Refn compared his take on Wonder Woman to Christopher Nolan's Batman revamp, saying: "You need a great, extravagant, marketable action film - and everything that comes with it. But I think that when Christopher Nolan did the Batman movies, I think he very cleverly went back to the source material and took themes that had maybe not been exercised."

The director disclosed that his main objective would be to create a formidable villain for the movie, as Wonder Woman doesn't "have a Joker or those classic Batman guys".
He explained: "That's when it gets interesting, because you have to create a great countervillain to her. They tried in Catwoman - with not particularly good results. The trick with Wonder Woman is to find that antagonist who worked so well in the Batman concept - his villains are equally if not more exciting than Batman himself.

"Here, it's basically coming up with who would be a great counterpart to Wonder Woman. Is it her mother who's the real enemy? Something that’s biblical in a sense."

Ricky Gervais Talks 'Life's Too Short'

Talking about his new sitcom 'Life's Too Short' Ricky Gervais said its the funniest thing he and Stephen Merchant have ever done.

Starring 3ft 6in actor Warwick Davis, Davis’s character in the show is a self-obsessed dwarf with ‘small-man complex’ who runs an employment agency called Dwarves For Hire – but steals all the jobs for himself.

Gervais added he and Merchant decided to make the sitcom after meeting Davis on the set of Extras, where he shared his experiences such as taking a broom handle to supermarket so he could knock products from high shelves onto the floor.
‘The real Warwick tells great stories,’ Gervais said. ‘They’re comedy gold.

‘He has been in the street and Japanese or Irish people will touch him because they think it’s lucky,’ Gervais told the press conference. ‘And he says that at parties he will be treated like a child, with people just standing in front of him or patting him on the head.’

Alfonso Cuarón's 'Gravity' Details

Oscar winning special effects company Framestore have revealed new details on Alfonso Cuarón's 'Gravity.'

'Gravity' is a 3D space film about the leader of a team posted at a remote space station. While he and a female colleague are traveling outside the space station, the other team members are decimated by debris from an exploded satellite.

Robert Downey Jr. is confirmed to star.
Framestore is about to embark on one of its greatest challenges yet, Gravity is the next Avatar in terms of ambition. There are many innovative and visually stunning aims for this project.

The entire film weill be made here at Framestore. In effect the film, as Avatar was, is 60% CG feature animation with the balance being hybrid CG and live action elements.

Starring Robert Downey Junior, the film is a contemporary survival thriller that follows a woman as she attempts to make her way back to earth after a satellite crash sets off a chain reaction of further crashes. Because it's set in space, most shots require every element to float in zero-gravity.

But then factor in that this a stylish Cuarón flick, directed with his trademark languid feel, and you begin to realise the full scale of our challenge. Cuarón's long and fluid style (the opening shot alone is slated to last at least 20 minutes) leaves no cut points to hide behind. In short, this is a hybrid of a fully animated, photo-real feature film with a blockbusting visual effects movie.

Fortunately, having worked with Alfonso before on Harry Potter and Children of Men, we know one another extremely well. Now we are looking for the best talent in the world to help us realise this massive and beautiful film. Over the next few weeks we are interviewing and looking at reels of those in-house who want to join in as well as making trips to the US, Canada and Australasia.

This is CG feature animation meets real world on a large and beautiful scale.

Following him to Edinburgh, she keeps his home while he goes to work in a small local theatre. Enchanted by her enthusiasm for his act, he rewards her with increasingly lavish gifts he has 'conjured' into existence. Desperate not to disappoint her, he cannot bring himself to reveal that magic does not exist and that buying these gifts is driving him to ruin.

But as Alice comes of age, she finds love and moves on. The Illusionist no longer has to pretend and, untangled from his own web of deceit, resumes his life as a travelling entertainer, a much wiser man.

First Look At Andrew Lincoln In 'The Walking Dead'

AMC have released the first picture of Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes in AMC's 'The Walking Dead,' Creator/writer of the comic and executive producer on the show Robert Kirkman had this to say on Andrew Lincoln playing Rick:
"Writing this book for the past seven years I've gotten very close to the character of Rick. Andrew Lincoln embodies every aspect of the character that fans know and love. After seeing this photo I don't think that there will be a doubt in anyone's mind that he's perfect for the role."
