Clooney takes on 'The Challenge'

George Clooney has acquired the film rights to Jonathan Mahler's true-life legal thriller The Challenge.

The book tells the story of lawyer Charles Swift and law professor Neal Katyal, who campaigned to secure a fair trail for Salim Hamdan, Osama bin Laden's bodyguard and driver.

Hamdan was recently sentenced to a 66-month prison term. He was found guilty of providing material support for terrorism but cleared of more serious charges.

The film will be developed at Clooney and Grant Heslov's Smoke House production company.

Clooney has yet to decide what role he will take in the production, though it is thought that the actor could portray the US Navy lawyer Swift.
